STORM WARNING FOR THE UK
Your Insurance Policy Terms & Conditions
Somewhere, within the Policy Terms & Conditions of your Buildings Insurance policy there is a good chance it will state; ‘the Valley Guttering of the insured building should be inspected annually’ or words to that effect.
It will also state that a dated record of Inspection is to be held and submitted to the insurer in the event of you wishing to make a claim, no ifs or buts!
The problem is, most policyholders are not even aware that these policy conditions exist!
The reason for these conditions is because, Valley Gutters are prone to becoming clogged and ‘unclear’ over time, and when they do, and heavy and/or prolonged rain falls, they can often no longer cope with the sheer volume of water.
This results in an overflow, causing damage to the fabric of the building, to valuable contents or stock stored within, resulting in a potentially disastrous impact on your ability to even continue trading.
If you were not aware, or chose to be bury your head in the sand, you will not be able to provide evidence of the required Inspection and your Insurer will not deal with your claim. Disaster! You will be left to foot the bill of repair which of course will many times more than the cost of a really affordable Inspection!! If you had known would you have arranged an Inspection?
On the other hand, if you knew, and were pro-active in arranging an Inspection, you can simply email the details to your insurer and they will start the repair process, returning your business back to normal with the minimum of disruption.
